Should you add a testimonial video to your website? Damn straight!

You've probably noticed that more and more websites feature some sort of video. There are two main reasons for you to consider adding video to your website: 1) videos are much more effective at communicating your message to visitors without boring the hell out of them, and 2) videos do wonders for helping your web page move up in the search engine rankings.

According to some experts, videos are 50 times more likely to rank on the first page of Google and your conversion rate can increase up to 30%.

Ah, but producing a video sounds so cumbersome and expensive. It's not. Or it is. Here are just a few of the possibilities for video productions you can incorporate into your online marketing plan and keep your costs down.

Video Testimonials

Some of the most popular videos out there are simple testimonials. One person in front of a camera telling a story. It might be sharing an experience that the on-camera person had with the company (or pretends to have had), or it might be a straight commercial touting the benefits of whatever product or service being offered. But one thing is for certain, most visitors prefer that you communicate your message without making them read or scroll...or think.

And the real beauty of a video testimonial is that there is almost no expense. Now, as a writer, I strongly recommend that you hire me to write your 30 to 120 second script, but you can certainly write your own, set up a camera (some great, inexpensive HD cameras are available at Bestbuy.com and other retailers), record your testimonial, upload it to YouTube.com and embed it on your page.

This testimonial video was produced from a script that I wrote for a rehab center in New Jersey. Clients often hire me because of my background in comedy and marketing, and most of the scripts I write are allegedly funny. I did make sure that the client was aware that for a rehab center I would go more for clever than laugh-out-loud jokes. Although humor does make a video more memorable, you must be careful to not distract from the message.

So, if you're looking for a way to make your website more effective and ultimately more profitable, then you should definitely consider adding a testimonial video to your pages. Oh, and you should contact me to write the script. Very reasonable. Very effective. Very funny. (funnyscriptwriter@gmail.com)

Here are just some of the dozens of testimonials about my script writing work. Video is the way to go. And a professionally written, funny script makes it all the better.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer, here's a video camera that I'm considering purchasing. It's a Bell and Howell Zoomtouch 1080p HD High Definition Digital Video Camcorder, and it's very inexpensive. Like $139. Wow.

Stay tuned. Next time we'll look at cost-effective ways to create popular animated videos including whiteboards and video scribing.
